Scottish Referendum

  • We believe Scotland is stronger and safe for its place within the family of nations that the UK rejects calls for independence. We propose a brighter future for Scotland, as a leading nation within a democratically reformed UK that better represents all British people, namely, Federalism.

  • Should there be another independence referendum, ensure that Federalism is on the ballot paper as a third option for voters.

  • We do not believe a mandate for an independence referendum can be gained at a devolved election. Claiming such a mandate undermines the devolution settlement as these powers are reserved to Westminster.

  • Removing the threat of a second independence referendum for at least this term and the next of the Westminster parliament, would give Scotland a period of much needed stability. This is essential to rebuilding post-COVID.

  • We will actively oppose and abstain from any unofficial referendum.
